Unit History

79 Wing was formed at Batchelor, December 1943 by Group Captain Charles "Moth" Eaton. The Wing comprised of four squadrons flying Beaufort, B-25 Mitchell bombers and Beaufighter heavy fighters. 79 Wing went to New Guinea and Balikpapan, on the east coast of the island of Borneo, in the Indonesian province of East Kalimantan during 1944-45. Headquarters were disbanded October 1945.
